Wrekin Forest School

About us

I am Judie, a mum to four adult children and a qualified teacher of twenty years, I have primarily worked with Reception and Early Years children. It was as a teacher that I fell in love with the concept of outdoor learning and forest school. I am a qualified Forest School Leader and my passion for outdoor learning is as strong today as it was when I first qualified!

I continue to have a passion to see children and adults learn and explore the outdoors together.

We are based near Telford in a beautiful 4 acre woodland space, Shropshire Wrekin Forest School provides the perfect escape for Forest School learning & exploration to those of every age and ability. This might be as a regular part of the core curriculum in school time, one off school visits, celebrations, clubs, or team building opportunities.

Forest School has enormous scope to provide a wide range of enjoyable outdoor activities for those of all ages, so don’t think that this fun is just for the youngsters, it also for the young at heart! If you want to learn something new, or do something you may have done when you were growing up come along and enjoy fun for all the family. We provide excellent opportunities for workplace team building too.

Our ethos

We have an innovative approach to the outdoors, where exploring, playing and learning form part of an exciting adventure, we offer children, young people and adults of all abilities the opportunity to explore the wonders of the woodland.

Wrekin Forest School, provides ways of meeting National Curriculum learning objectives whilst developing practical life skills and encouraging child initiated learning, collaboration and exploration, which can be observed and assessed.

Many of us benefit from and indeed prefer a practical approach to learning.

There is overwhelming evidence to suggest children achieve greater levels of success when outdoor learning is combined with traditional classroom learning. All children benefit from opportunities to demonstrate a wider range of knowledge and expertise – especially important for those who don’t necessarily ‘shine’ or ‘thrive’ in the classroom.

Forest School also has additional physical, social and health benefits for children and young people who are leading increasingly indoor lives, helping them to enjoy physical activity outdoors and mitigate obesity. Children and young people become more confident in their own natural and made environments, and acquire a deeper understanding about environmental issues locally and globally.

Our team

Wrekin Forest School has a fun-loving, passionate team who thrive on seeing children and adults succeed and is particularly successful in developing self-esteem and confidence, and motivating them to work together to achieve great things and learn new skills.
